How German healthcare works: You need a Krankenversicherungskarte (health insurance card) to see a doctor. Most people in Germany have public health insurance (gesetzliche Krankenversicherung). Always bring your insurance card to every appointment. If it's urgent, most practices accept walk-ins (without an appointment) during morning hours.
