What is Anmeldung? Anmeldung (address registration) is the process of officially registering where you live in Germany. It is required by law within 14 days of moving into a new home. The result is the Meldebescheinigung — a registration certificate you will need for almost everything else: opening a bank account, applying for a residence permit, enrolling at university, and more.

What You Need for Anmeldung
✅ Reisepass oder Personalausweis — Passport or national ID card
✅ Wohnungsgeberbestätigung — Landlord confirmation form (your landlord must sign this)
✅ Ausgefülltes Anmeldeformular — Completed registration form (often available online to download in advance)
⚠️ Mietvertrag — Rental contract (not always required, but useful to bring)
💡 Important: The Wohnungsgeberbestätigung must be signed by your landlord — not just by you. Without it, most Bürgerbüros cannot complete your registration. Ask your landlord for it on the day you move in.
