Four original A2-level stories set in real Germany situations. Each story has vocabulary highlights, comprehension questions with instant feedback, and an English summary hint. Practise the way the Goethe A2 Lesen section works.
At A2 level, reading comprehension is tested in the Goethe A2 exam across five tasks — longer than at A1, including advertisements, informal messages, notices, and online forum posts. The stories on this page are written specifically to reflect the language, situations, and vocabulary that appear in A2 reading tasks.
The key A2 reading skill is reading for gist — you do not need to understand every word. Read the text once for the overall meaning, then read the questions before reading again for specific details. This mirrors what the exam expects. The comprehension questions here follow the same format.
Use these stories as grammar practice too. As you read, try to identify: subordinate clauses with verb at the end (weil, dass, obwohl), Präteritum forms (war, hatte, konnte, musste), adjective endings before nouns, and Dativ prepositions (mit, bei, nach, seit, von, aus, zu).
